House of Representatives returns from summer break to vote on state funding bill - by Bruce Tyson - Helium: "Ironically, the Democrat measure cuts food assistance to those living in poverty to fund the well-compensated unionized labor, suggesting that Democrat concern for union bosses trumps any compassion for the poor. At a time when food stamp recipients number higher than ever as Americans struggle to deal with the Obama depression, yanking food aid from them seems to give the Democrats a sort of “Anti-Robin Hood” air: take from the poor and give it to the rich. With more than $400 billion on the table, justifying taking food away from the disadvantaged to finance a bailout of seemingly overpaid unions does not seem right.

The extraordinary task set before the Blackberry Torch is daunting, so one would expect it to be a truly exceptional and revolutionary product. It’s not. It is a rehash of the same old Blackberry theme equipped with a disappointing low-res display and touch screen and a rugged, ultra thin keyboard. Much after the way Microsoft tossed social networking into its Kin flop, hoping to make it fly, RIM has done Torch. An integrated inbox and a revamped Web browser probably will prove insufficient to lure customers away from hi-def Android products like the Samsung Galaxy S or the HTC Evo.
