Seattle police officer punches jaywalker in face - by Bruce Tyson - Helium
A Seattle cop punched a woman in the face as a jaywalking incident escalated out of control. The episode started when an officer spotted an eighteen year old male and four females improperly crossing the street, about fifteen feet from a designated crosswalk. Details of what happened to the male are sketchy, but the officer called the females over to his police car, presumably for ticketing. Things went downhill from there. A physical struggle ensued, resulting in the arrest of two women, one of whom was socked to the jaw by the lone officer who struggled to contain the situation. During the altercation, a crowd gathered, and at least one video of the event has emerged on sites across the Web, setting the stage for public outrage and confusion.

More passengers should get ready to fly free when new air fare regulations take effect, says George Hobica, founder of AirFareWatchdog.com, the famous no-frills service that highlights the best fares and promotions in the travel industry. The new rules implemented by the Obama regime mean that passengers will receive higher levels of compensation when they are “bumped” from flights, meaning more people will work to master the art of flying commercial for free. Many fliers already have mastered the science of getting free tickets in exchange for giving up their seat on an airline flight and with added incentives of up to $1,300; Hobica expects many more to get in on the game.

Can a virus turn a computer off? - by Bruce Tyson - Helium

Virus infections often have unpredictable results: one of them is the ability to take control of your system. A virus can use your computer to host denial of service and other attacks, and it can do just about anything else that is programmatically possible. You can get some clues as to what viruses can do by reading the details of Microsoft Windows system updates or by perusing the Web site of a major antivirus program. The bottom line is that when controlled by a virus, your computer can perform any function that is executable through software, including shutdown.

Mobile advertising took a leap forward this week with the launch of Apple iOS 4, the first advertising enabled operating system for Apple iPhone and iPad. Fresh off a decision that allowed Google to purchase AdMob, the FTC is familiar with the dynamics involved in the mobile advertising market and is expected to move quickly in its anti-trust investigation
