What is the difference between 3G and 4G? - by Bruce Tyson - Helium

4G is the fourth generation of wireless data standards. It is being promoted in two different formats: Wi-Max (Sprint 4G), and LTE (other carriers). The switch from analog to digital mobile data transmission occurred in the change from 1G to 2G. 3G data networks brought us speeds fast enough to run multimedia over the mobile handset. 4G brings a dramatic increase in speed over 3G, allows more stable and reliable connections through packet switched networks, and brings with it the capability of multiple carrier support.
